Young Carers Day – Sunday 12th Oct 2014 – Ferny Crofts
Hants scouts are offering an activity day for young carers who are not at the moment members of scouting. This one-day event already been advertised through young carers groups and has had a great take up of young carers applying. What we now need please is some enthusiastic Explorer scouts to host groups of young carers during their activity day. We would try to pair the Explorer scouts hosts up, and you will be supported by adult leaders. As part of the host role  you would get an opportunity to do all the exciting activities too, all for free. Please see details of the event on the attached poster.
For 8 – 14 years old, young carers at Ferny Crofts Activities Centre
In case you’re wondering what young carers are. These are young people just like yourselves, who take on the responsibility of caring for somebody else in addition to their education and other activities. As I’m sure you can appreciate knowing how busy your own life is this can be quite a challenge for the young carer to fit everything in and mean they have reduced time for undertaking activities of their own.  The idea of this day is to give them a day away from caring enjoying scouting and undertaking some challenging interesting and exciting activities.
I have been part of the organising group for this event, and I’m sure that it will be a fantastic and very worthwhile event for all involved.
You would need to arrange your own transport to and from Ferney Crofts. We can put those of you who are going in touch with each other so you can share transport.
If you are able to volunteer to help as a host for a small group of young carers that would be fantastic, and an opportunity to make a real difference for someone else. Please could you let Robin know by the 19th September 2014 preferably by email if you can do it.
If you would like more information or an informal discussion about the event please do not hesitate to contact Robin.
